Why You Need To See Aladdin The Musical In London

I’ve always loved Disney movies so when I was offered the chance to see Aladdin the musical I jumped at it. I’ve already seen the Lion King musical and it was brilliant so I was keen to see if Aladdin would be just as good.

The Show

The show starts of in the streets of Agrabah where we meet Aladdin (played by Matthew Croke) I thought he was perfect for the role and had a great singing voice. Aladdin spends a lot of time with three other male friends Babkak (Leon Craig), Omar (Miles Barrow) and Kassim (Daniel De Bourg).

Aladdin ends up meeting Princess Jasmine and falling for her. Jasmine (played by Jade Ewen) is strong and feisty, exactly how you expect Jasmine to be.

No Disney film is complete without a baddie, the baddie Jafar and his sidekick Lago do come across as panto villains at times. However, they did add some humour to the show. They are after a magical lamp and find out the only one who can get to this lamp is Aladdin. They take Aladdin to the cave of wonders where the lamp is, he rubs the lamp and a Genie appears. The Genie (played by the amazing actor, Trevor Dion Nicholas) brings a lot of laughter and fun to this musical. Throughout the show he was making loads of jokes and being very sassy. His first song “Friend like me” was definitely a highlight for me, I love this song and he really gets the crowd warmed up for the rest of the show.

When you think of Aladdin you think of the flying carpet and they managed to pull it off so well. It looked amazing as they floated around singing “A Whole New World”

The costumes

I loved the costumes! So much glitter and sparkle everywhere it’s everything you could want from a Disney Movie.

Overall thoughts

I really enjoyed the show, you can’t help leaving feeling happy and like a little kid again. The show does have elements of panto but it’s so much more than that. It’s magical, funny and dazzling. If you’re a Disney fan or have kids then I’d definitely recommend going.

Prepare to be dazzled by this magical theatrical production.
