Wine Tours in Alicante

Alicante in a great location for wine tours, you can learn about the ancient art of winemaking at this delightful family-run winery called Bodegas Faelo, located in the heart of the countryside near Elche in Alicante. They’ve been making wine for over 100 years, selecting only the best variety of grapes that best adapt to Mediterranean climate and the sandstone limestone soil, to produce top quality wines. The vineyards near Alicante are spread over 2.5 acres of beautiful vineyards, which has been divided into three plots, the winery itself, Matola and Crevillente. Currently the vineyards are planted with native varieties such as Monastrell, Muscat of Alexandria, as well as foreign ones; Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Syrah and Chardonnay.

When visiting the winery, you can choose from a tasting visit or a lunch and wine tasting.

The tasting option includes a visit to the winery guided by its owner. You get to visit the house, winepress, museum, vineyard, fermentation room and barrel room. You’ll find out more about the history of the vineyard and get to taste four wines (white, rosé, red and sweet) accompanied by a taste of dried sausages from the area, artisan cheeses, homemade bread with extra virgin olive oil, dried fig and date bread. This tour lasts around one and a half hours.

The price is only 12€ per person.

For an additional 3 euros you can have some extra food and longer to explore this amazing area. Each visitor will get to taste an individual local dish such as dried sausages, cheese and homemade bread with extra virgin olive oil. This visit will last around two hours and includes everything mentioned in the first option.

This is reasonably priced at 15€ per person.

Climbing up to Santa Barbara Castle

Santa Barbara Castle is a tenth century fortress, visit to learn more about it’s important role in the history of Alicante. The Museum of the City of Alicante (MUSA) is located inside of the castle and has 10 exhibition halls covering the history of the city and the castle.

Snorkelling on Tabarca Island

Alicante isn’t normally thought of as a destination for snorkelling, but an amazing place to do this is the islet of Tabarca, a few miles off the coast of Alicante. It’s a protected marine reserve which is a haven for marine life and birds including loggerhead turtles, lobsters and a variety of fish. There are three boats daily travelling between Tabarca Island and Alicante Port, taking around 45 minutes each way.

Descend into Canelobre Caves

Canelobre Caves are located in Busot, a scenic drive from Alicante. You can book a guided tour of the caves in the side of the mountain to see the jagged teeth of the stalacites and stalagmites, made all the more dramatic by the coloured lighting displays. Don’t miss the dramatic 70-metre high cave, one of the tallest in Spain! Tours are held throughout the day and take around 45 minutes.

Guadalest Valley

Guadalest Valley is one of the most visited attractions on the Costa Blanca. Visit for stunning views, waterfalls and the Guadelst village located at the top of the mountain. The village itself has a number of attractions such as the Guadalest Castle, shops, museums including the Miniatures of Manuel Ussa Museum and Doll’s Houses Museum. There are guided coach tours available from Alicante Marina to Guadalest Valley, or you can hire a car from Alicante to explore the area.
