Royal Afternoon Tea, Galvin at the Athenaeum
Sam and I are massive fans of Afternoon Tea so when we heard about the Royal Afternoon Tea at Galvin at the Athenaeum, we had to visit! Galvin restaurants are a family run collection of French restaurants, I’ve already visited Galvin at Windows and it was lovely, it has seriously amazing rooftop views over London!
Galvin at the Athenaeum
The Athenaeum is a luxury 5 star hotel with a restaurant and bar. Upon arrival we were shown to our table, the restaurant is divided into several sections one for dining, an area for lounging and afternoon tea and also an outdoor terrace which is perfect for summer.
The interior was a beautiful mix of modern styles with comfy lounging chairs. Luigi, our waiter, came over to explain more about the teas, I went for the Dragon Pearl Jasmine Tea which was sweet and balanced with green tea notes and a delicate jasmine aroma. Sam went for the Ceylon tea which is normally used in iced tea, normally I don’t like black teas without milk but this was well rounded and smooth without being too strong.
The menu also had a gentlemen’s afternoon tea with a bigger selection of savoury foods, this one also looked very tempting but as it came with cheese scones we stuck to the royal version.
The afternoon tea
We were then treated to a glass of champagne which is the perfect accompaniment for this indulgent afternoon tea! After this it didn’t take long for the tea and afternoon tea selection to arrive.
Luigi had checked to see if we had any food allergies or preferences, and as we don’t really like fish he bought us a selection of vegetarian sandwiches along with some meat and egg ones. He then explained which sandwiches were best to start with such as the egg and meat ones and then to finish with the pesto one as this had the strongest flavour.
We really loved the attention to detail from Luigi, hearing his recommendations and suggestions on the best way to enjoy the food was brilliant!
Sandwiches
Some of the sandwiches included Coronation Chicken, Cumbrian beef & Coleman’s horseradish on beetroot bread, Regents park honey roasted Dukeshill ham with mustard mayonnaise on brioche.
The veggie selection we had included pesto and cheese, baba ganoush, roasted red pepper with hummus and cucumber and cream cheese. My favourite ones were the coronation chicken, pesto and cheese and the cucumber one.
Scones
Our scones were lovely too, we had a plain one and fruit one each served with clotted cream, jam or lemon curd. There was a generous serving of clotted cream, I normally use a lot and Sams left with hardly any but this wasn’t a problem here. The scones were also a bit smaller than others I’ve had which I preferred as this meant I still had room for the cakes.
The Cakes
The cakes had a Wimbledon theme which I thought was a nice touch, the carrot cake had a cute Wimbledon sign on.
The chocolate and salted caramel tart had mini tennis ball icing on top, this was our favourite cake. We also enjoyed the Strawberry eaton mess as you can’t go to Wimbledon without having some Strawberries.
We had a lovely time at the Galvin, the afternoon tea was delicious and the surroundings and the service was excellent! I’d highly recommend visiting for afternoon tea and I’d love to stay in the luxurious hotel one day.

Looks fabulous. What a lovely afternoon out and the food looks amazing. It’s nice to spoil yourselves occasionally isn’t it and do something special.
