Celebrating Fantasia at Sounds and Sorcery

A few weeks ago I got to try out Sounds And Sorcery, an immersive Disney Fantasia experience. This is located at the Vaults  which is an underground maze of disused railway arches under Waterloo. I love all things Disney and used to watch this movie with my Grandparents so was exited to see what this experience would be like.

Upon entering you are given a set of headphones and then you enter a dark room, you each lie down on a sofa and watch visual displays paired with classical music above your head. You are then free to explore at your own pace, walking around the labyrinth of impressive visual installations paired with music from Fantasia which changes each time you walk into a new room. My favourite area had an enchanted garden displaying colourful flowers and dancing mushrooms that lit up in time with the music.

Near the end there is a timed performance with a funny ballet scene performed on a long checkered stage, there’s also a bar here so its a great location to relax with a drink whilst you wait for the show to start. I realised after reading some other blog posts about the event that I must have missed one of the rooms as there is meant to be another timed show. This was a shame as it sounded good, it’s quite easy to get lost or not know about rooms as there’s no guide of how many sections there are. If there was a guide or some information before you enter then that would be useful.

The last room we entered was a bit random, we were watching a projection of a man on fire, this lasted quite a long time and I found it all pretty weird. After this finished we got to explore a magical forest area with lanterns, I really enjoyed exploring the rooms and seeing all the visual displays but felt that there could have been more things relating to Mickey Mouse or scenes from the movie. Overall I enjoyed this magical experience and with a few changes it could be brilliant.

Looks absolutely brilliant. These things pop up all over London dont they? Just a matter of finding out about them. Not sure about the man on fire though ……
