Keeping fit & healthy whilst on a cruise
Holidays are great place to relax, unwind and escape from the stresses and commitments of everyday life. Going on a cruise is a great way to indulge in new foods but pairing this with inactivity can mean you end up putting on weight. This doesn’t need to happen though as there are so many activities you can do to stay fit and healthy whilst travelling.
Frankie from the Saturdays and her husband Wayne Bridge, a former footballer, created a fitness itenarary whilst they where on board a Marella Cruise ship in Norway. The video showcases how easy it is to stay fit whilst on holiday, below are some of the activities they did.
Kayaking
Frankie and Wayne kayaked through the beautiful Norwegian Fjords. This is such a fun way to keep fit together and enjoy stunning scenery at the same time. Research shows being around flowing water or sea waves can release stress busting hormones. Some other options to keep fit in water would be to go snorkelling, scuba diving and swimming.
Rock climbing
The couple took part in rock climbing which was positioned on the open deck of the ship with phenomenal panoramic views. They took turns spotting each other to reach the top of the wall, where they where able to look out on the amazing scenery of the Fjords. Trying different activities in amazing locations means you won’t get bored and exercise becomes fun rather than a chore.
Exercise as a couple
Frankie and Wayne took to the deck of the ship to complete a couples workout, you can check out the video here. Exercising with a partner is a great way to get more out of your workout, it can increase motivation as you each egg each other on with a little healthy competitiveness. Workouts also release feel good endorphins which can lead to heightened intimacy. You can also challenge each other and learn some new workout moves.
Enjoy fresh healthy food
As well as exercising its important to eat healthy fresh food whilst on holiday. Norway is known for its fresh fish so Frankie and Wayne enjoyed plenty of fish whilst there, fish oils help to moderate our moods by supporting the effects of serotonin in the brain. Other mood boosting foods include eggs, fruits, nuts and seeds, legumes and vegetables.
There are so many different ways you can keep fit on holiday, especially on a cruise as theres so many options. Stopping in different locations means there will always be something new to explore. Walking around new destinations is a good way to stay fit, the daily goal is 10,000 steps which you can hit easily without noticing because you’ll be distracted by one of Marella’s amazing stopovers. The cruise ships also have an array of activities to do on onboard so you’ll never get bored.
