Fun Activities to do with Active Ramsgate
Ramsgate is a seaside town in East Kent packed with natural beauty and stunning sea views. Active Ramsgate has launched a campaign to promote fun activities around the area that will also keep you fit and healthy. For more information on Active Ramsgate click here. Below is a list of what me and my boyfriend did when we visited Ramsgate for the weekend.
Cycling
Ride Bike Hire offer a range of good quality Pashley bikes for hire so you can explore the Viking coastal trail. They offer a number of pick up points along the coastal trail so you can explore as much as you want. Hiring bikes is an excellent way to explore more of Ramsgate and to see more of the beautiful coastline.
Pickleball
Pickleball is a great new sport to try out originating from the USA it is a mixture of tennis, badminton and ping pong. This fun sport is a great way to keep active and burn some calories. Head to Spencer Square Tennis & Pickleball Centre to give it a go.
Kayaking
We visited at the beginning of October and unfortunately the weather on the Sunday was very rainy and windy so we couldn’t go kayaking. If visiting on a nice day you can kayak from Ramsgate to Broadstairs taking in the beauty of the white cliffs and you might even be able to see seals! For more info click here. Come prepared with your own kayaking gloves, which you can find here: https://www.globosurfer.com/best-kayaking-gloves/ these will keep your hands protected from blisters and sores. Alternatively if you don’t fancy kayaking you could take a boat trip for views along the Kent coastline.Food
Archive Home Store – Great place to relax with a drink and admire the views over the harbour. Serving healthy lunches, loose leaf teas and cakes. They also have a range of books, home ware and stationary for sale.
Bon Apetit – This French restaurant has beautiful views overlooking the harbour. Choose from a selection of sea food, meat and wine. I was very impressed with the friendly service, presentation of the food and the white chocolate creme brulee was a real highlight for me. Try and book in advance as the restaurant is quite small and was full when we were there.
The Empire Room – This traditional cosy restaurant serves a range of gourmet food. Serving Sunday roast, afternoon tea and a selection of meat and vegetarian dishes. I really enjoyed the scotch egg starter and the wonderful presentation of the food.
Where to stay
Glendevon Guest House
The owner Rebekah was incredibly welcoming and friendly and always there to help or suggest great places to go in the area. Our room was spacious with it’s own kitchenette, bathroom and television. Located minutes from the seafront and walking distance from shops and restaurants.
We had a brilliant weekend in Ramsgate, we were very impressed with the range of activities and would visit again to try out more of them!
