Planning holidays right now can be a little difficult. With the presence of coronavirus around the world, governments are limiting travel in and out of their borders and getting from one place to another is becoming increasingly difficult. However, that doesn’t mean that you have to put your plans entirely on hold. You could always consider some more local getaways within your home country’s own borders or you could make plans that are insured and can be rearranged if they don’t come to fruition as planned. If you’re into sports, a sports holiday can be the ideal break. Here are some ideas to get you off to a good start!

Surfing

Surfing is a fun activity that can be carried out anywhere with water and some waves. Whether that’s the coast of Cornwall in the UK, or the beaches of Hawaii. What you’ll need will depend on the temperatures of the water you’re going to be swimming in, so you may just need swimwear and a board, or you may need a wetsuit too. You don’t need to know how to surf to have a good time. There are plenty of guides out there on most beaches who will be able to help you get started. Just make sure to be careful. Avoid heading out too deep or in currents if you’re not a strong swimmer. You should also only surf on beaches that have a lifeguard.

Hiking

Hiking is another option that could keep you fit and active at the same time as having a good time on your getaway. There are hike trails all around the world and all you need is a good pair of hiking boots and thick socks to get you going. Make sure to check the difficulty of any route before getting started to make sure that it’s appropriate. It’s also a good idea to take battery chargers to keep connected while you’re off the beaten track. If you’re tackling particularly difficult or complex trails, you can often find local guides who will be able to take you along the way, making sure that you don’t run off route or into trouble. Also remember to wear enough sunscreen.

Sports Hotel

There are plenty of sports hotels like the Lanzarote sports hotel. These are good locations where you can enjoy yourself in the sun at the same time as getting fit and practicing your skills. These are also great places to meet others with similar interests and pastimes! These hotels allow you to enjoy your sports, train and then also benefit from the general enjoyments of a resort, including pools and sun loungers.

Golf Resorts

Golf is one of the most popular sports in the world. You don’t have to be any particular level to enjoy it and there are a whole host of golf resorts to choose from. This is a good option for a sporty holiday that isn’t excessively exhaustive. You can take things at your own pace, catching up with those you’re spending time with and also adding a competitive element should you wish. If you’re feeling a little rusty, you can always warm up on the driving range too!

Skiing

There are ski resorts around the world, from the peaks of Scotland to Canada, France, Switzerland and beyond. Ski resorts often also have plenty of equipment to rent out, so you don’t need to bring your own kit. Skiing is great exercise and you can spend long days on the slopers. Whether those are beginner slopes or something more extreme. Just make sure to wear plenty of sunscreen. You can then also spend the evenings enjoying the activities on site, such as hot chocolates in cosy cabins or on site bars.

Spectator Sports

Love sports but not into getting involved yourself? Plenty of people enjoy sports on their holidays and getaways as a spectator. You don’t necessarily have to work up a sweat to have a great sporting holiday! Whether you go away specifically for a match or game, or whether you simply incorporate one into a trip revolving around other activities, this could be great fun!

Of course, this isn’t an exhaustive list of all the different sporting holidays you can enjoy. There are plenty out there and, chances are, if you’re interested in a specific sport, there will be a whole host of holidays that will tick your boxes. Hopefully, some of the suggestions above should help to get your imagination going!
