Cruising for Couples: 11 Things To Know

If you’re going to go on your first cruise with your partner, there are a few things you should know. Cruises can make wonderful vacations and are truly a time to remember – but you still need to be prepared for what’s to come, as each cruise is not created equal. Read on for 11 things couples should know:

1.Don’t Leave Your Data Plan On

The first thing to remember when you go on your cruise is to either turn off your data plan or make sure you’re connected to the wi-fi. This can actually add unnecessary money to your phone bill due to the various places you are travelling – even if you only have apps running in the background. It’s probably best to have your phone on airplane mode until you know you can connect to wi-fi or you know you won’t be charged. You won’t want to spend too much time on your phone anyway!

 2.Don’t Take Every Single Excursion

Although it can be tempting, don’t take every single organised ship excursion unless you really want to. You have other options! You can do your own thing when the ship is docked – just know that if you’re late, the ship will leave without you! You can also just stay on the ship, and usually this means having the ship to yourself so you can explore.

3.You Still Need Travel Insurance

You just never know what you might pick up, or what could happen. Travel insurance on a cruise is still extremely important. Make sure you still have travel insurance before you’re due to go on vacation, and that it suits what you’re doing.

4.Keep Your ID Cards Safe

You won’t be able to get on or off the ship or buy a drink if you don’t have your ID cards. Keep them with you at all times and make sure you keep them safe.

5.Travel With The Right Cruising Company

Cruising can be one of the most romantic travel options, but only if you choose the right company. Many of them have different rules and a different vibe, along with different people on board. This can affect your experience massively

Some cruises are more luxurious than others, and some ships are bigger. Some will require you to get super dressed up for dinner too – and many of them treat the captain like a celebrity! Check out cruise deals to see what you can find but whatever you do, make sure the deal you find is going to suit you as a couple. If you want plenty of relaxation, you might not want to go on a cruise that allows children. It all depends on what you and your partner are looking for in a vacation.

It’s also worth bearing in mind that all inclusive packages are usually better – otherwise you can rack up huge bills paying for drinks and food.

6.You Might Get Seasick

Normal rules of life do not disappear on a cruise. If you usually get motion or sea sick, then you might on the cruise. Take medication with you to avoid feeling rubbish the entire time. Although there are measures in place to avoid too much rocking, and most of the time you won’t even feel like you’re on a boat, it’s still important. You never know when you might hit a wave.

7.A Cheaper Cabin Won’t Have A Porthole

If you decide to save a little and go for a cheaper cabin, don’t expect to see a porthole in there. If your cabin does have a porthole, don’t forget to close your curtains at night – when the ship docks in the morning the next ship will be able to see right through. Not ideal if you sleep naked!

8.Watch The Sunrise/Sunset

You’ll feel like a real life Rose and Jack when you watch the sunrise or set together on a cruise. Get up a little earlier and you might be able to enjoy the deck and the sunrise before the rest of the passengers arise. How romantic!

9.Get A Couple’s Massage

A couple’s massage could be just what you need to start your vacation with a bang. Get rid of all of that tension and all of those knots accumulated from back home and enjoy the rest of your cruise feeling flexible and free. Just don’t forget to tip your masseuse!

10.Make Sure Your Ship Has Great Entertainment

Entertainment on cruise ships is now a lot better than it used to be, but it’s still worth doing your research. Choosing a ship that has plenty of varied entertainment gives you something to schedule your night around. Big shows act as a centerpiece to the night, making each evening a date night. You can get dressed up, enjoy some food and drinks, and make amazing memories every single night you’re on the cruise.

11.Don’t Try To Experience Everything

You could probably never experience every single thing your cruise ship has to offer. There’s that much to see and do on a ship, you’d need to be on there for months! Instead, rank the things you want to do (and make sure you really want to do them) and slowly work through your list, taking breaks in between so you don’t get exhausted – this is supposed to be a vacation!

Make sure you book the things you definitely want to do in advance, too. You can figure out what you want to do most by ranking everything. Once you’ve been through everything on your must do list, you can try out other activities. Just make sure you don’t set your expectations for getting it all done too high!

Cruising for couples can be an incredible experience and the vacation of a lifetime. In fact, once you’ve tried a cruise, you may decide to never go on another type of vacation again! They are just so convenient, and there’s so much to do. You barely need to plan anything or think at all. Which cruise will you go on?
