10 moving house hacks for an easier move

1.Get moving quotes from different companies

I’d you’re hiring a company to help you move, try and get quotes from at least 3 different companies as the prices for this can vary a lot and some companies are booked up for dates well in advance.

2.Pack in advance

Packing can be very time consuming so try and start this straight away. Try and keep everything organised and start packing the things you won’t need daily. It’s also a good time to declutter and get rid of anything you don’t use regularly.

3.Short term storage

You may need to store some of your belongings if you are going to be renovating your house, or if you have to stay in temporary accommodation before your move in date. Now Storage self storage in Basingstoke offer affordable storage options.

4.Label your boxes

When packing label your boxes with which room the box needs to go in. This makes it easier on the day so you or the movers will know where to put the boxes.

5.Make a list

Create a moving list so you know where you are at and what’s left to do. It’s easy to forget things and then have to rush around last minute. Here’s a helpful moving checklist.

6.Call utility companies

Let the utility companies know you are moving out so you won’t be billed for days after the move. It’s also a good idea to get broadband sorted for your new house so you can have the internet straight away.

7.Deal with paperwork

Keep all important documents in one box, such as passports, house deeds and insurance information. You may need this information to hand on or before move in day.

8.Take time to clean

Try and finish packing early so you have time to clean the house or time to get cleaners in. Cleaning a house thoroughly can be very time consuming and is hard to do with clutter everywhere.

9.Pack a moving day kit

On the day of the move you’ll want a few things to hand on your first night such as hand soap, toilet roll, snacks etc This makes it easier on the day as you won’t be having to go through boxes to find these things.

10.Go slowly

Moving day can be exhausting so try and go slowly. If possible book some time off work so you have time to unpack slowly and get everything exactly where you want it. It can be tempting to rush and get everything out of the boxes straight away but you may then end up having more work re-organising things later.
