A weekend in Paris on a budget
Paris is an amazing destination to visit and is pretty easy to travel too from the UK, however it can be pretty expensive, here are my tips on how to save some money.
Use Short Breaks for cheap Eurostar & hotel packages
This website have great European trips at cheap prices, some of the packages work out cheaper than just booking the Eurostar alone! We got a weekend Eurostar and hotel package for £250 for 2 people.

Visit Galeries Lafayette for an amazing viewpoint
This shopping centre has the most beautiful gold architecture inside and if you head to the top floor there’s a free viewing platform where you can look out at the Eiffel tower and some other beautiful buildings around Paris. There’s also a rooftop bar, this wasn’t open when we visited in the morning but they also have a café the floor below so you can grab a drink there and look out at the views.
Free walking tour
Go on a free walking tour or just wander around on your own. Make sure you visit these places:
- The Louvre – The museum offers free admission on the first Sunday of every month from October to March.
- Tuileries Garden – located a short walk from the Louvre, these beautiful gardens are the perfect place to relax
- Notre Dam
- Arc De Triomphe
- Tuileries Garden
Cruise along a canal
A trip on the canals is a brilliant way to explore the city, there’s also a free way to experience a short canal trip. Le Millénaire, a shopping centre in the town of Aubervilliers, has started up a free boat service on the Canal Saint-Denis, running from the Corentin-Cariou metro station (Line 7) to the shopping centre.
Use public transport
Paris has an excellent public transportation system, and tickets are relatively inexpensive. The big bus tours are around €40 but you could use public buses to get around and many lines have picturesque views.
Eat at Chalet Gregoire
Food in Paris is pretty expensive but we managed to find this restaurant with cheap set menus, it was around €21 for three courses. I ordered the french onion soup, coq au vin and cremee brulee. The food was good I really enjoyed the coq au vin, it wasn’t the best food I’ve had but for the price it was decent.

Great list but why not picnic in the parks or along the Seine rather than eat in restaurants, buying stuff from the various traiteurs or markets? Then there’s the food stalls in markets which are less expensive than restaurants.

That was a cheap price for a 3 course… I wonder is it near the train station? I find there is an Asian restaurant and I think it’s the cheapest so far in Paris as yes mostly dining there you need big bucks!

Will have to keep an eye out for that next time I’m there. Chalet Gregoire isn’t that near the main station but is located near Notre Dame 🙂
