Get Rid of Unwanted Body Hair with SmoothSkin Muse Intelligent IPL Hair Removal

Hair removal is such a boring and time consuming task! With shaving, the hair grows back so fast and waxing is pretty painful. So I’m always on the lookout for products which can remove the hair for longer then I won’t have to shave as much. I’ve tried epilating before but found that quite painful. So when I received this IPL hair removal device from SmoothSkin I was excited to see if it worked.

SmoothSkin muse IPL

IPL SmoothSkin Muse

How does it work

The light will enter the skin and is absorbed by the melanin (pigment) in the hair shaft. The absorption of light causes the hair shaft and follicle to heat up. When the correct amount of light energy is used, the hair follicle cells are heated up to a temperature that results in an interruption of the hair growth cycle. This effect can either be permanent or temporary depending on a number of factors.

Suitable Skin & Hair Types

SmoothSkin Muse works effectively on most skin and hair types, including those with dark blonde, brown or black hair.

IPL-based treatments SmoothSkin Muse can’t be used to treat white, grey, very light blonde or red hair, and is unsuitable for use on very dark skin. This is due to the science behind IPL technology, and the need for a clear contrast between the colour of the hair and the skin.

How to use the SmoothSkin device

Before using the machine, you’ll need to remove hair from the areas you are going to use the machine on. It’s suitable for legs, underarm, bikini & face. It’s important to remove all visible hair otherwise it can damage the front of your device. You then plug the machine into the mains, press the on button, hold the machine on the area of skin you want to remove hair from. Check the side of the machine, it will light up if your holding it in the right way, it will turn red if it’s at the wrong angle or can’t work on that patch on skin. You then press the SS button and it will flash, which means its done its job so you can move onto the next patch of skin. You can do a full body treatment in around 20-30 minutes, the legs will take the longest but its pretty easy to use and pain free.

How often to use

For the first 12 sessions you should use the device once a week, after 4 weeks you’ll notice an improvement. By 12 weeks I noticed a massive improvement, a lot of hair has stopped growing back and what does grow back seems slower than normal. There’s a few areas which are patchy on my legs, which I’ve missed on the device. After the 12 sessions you then only need to use it as a top up to maintain results every 4-8 weeks. Make sure you use the device consistently and take your time so you don’t miss patches.

I’d highly recommend the device, its super easy to use and it’s the best product I’ve used for hair removal.

Is it painful?

You can feel a slight zap when using but nothing painful, I’ve had this done at a salon before and felt more of a sting with the machine they used. If you have very sensitive skin or are using it on your face there’s a feather button you can press so it won’t hurt as much but it will lessen the effectiveness so it will take longer to see results.

Does it stop you needing to shave or wax?

At the beginning of the process you’ll still need to shave or wax before using the device. Then after the 12 weeks you should notice a significance difference and won’t need to shave or will only have small patches to shave. The only issue is that it’s quite easy to miss patches of skin.

SmoothSkin price

The SmoothSkin Muse device starts off at £399 and you can purchase this at Boots. It is quite pricey but this product works really well and is worth the investment. The device comes with unlimited amount of flashes unlike some other IPL machines which stop after a certain amount, so it should last a very long time. If you’re looking for something cheap the SmoothSkin bare starts at £199
