There are so many wonderful spots to escape to for your summer holidays here in the UK, and it can end up being a lot more affordable. Of course, the weather might not be quite like the Costa Del Sol but if you fancy a staycation, then here are five places to escape to within the UK.

The Valleys Of Wales

Wales is one place that you’ll yourself flocking to if you love the countryside. Commonly thought by the rest of the country for having the most sheep, there’s actually a lot more to Wales than just it’s green pastures and sheep! The valleys of Wales is where you’ll find some lovely hidden gems like the Fir View caravan park, for example. These are great for an escape from the city life and a chance to detox from social media and your electronic devices in general. With plenty of forest walks and wildlife to discover, you’ll find that this is a place where you can reset the batteries and feel completely refreshed. 

City Of London

If you fancy something a little bit more fast-paced, then the city of London that is the UK’s capital is the place to be. Travel down by train and stay in the city centre or take the car and stay on the outskirts. The underground tube network, although a little temperamental at times, it’s great for getting in and around the city. A few tourist spots to visit if it’s your first time there is to take a trip up to the viewing point at The Shard. A full 360° view of the city’s landscape can be seen here both in the day and night, as well as having a number of restaurants, offices and hotel rooms in it too. If staying on the ground is more for you, then stop by Buckingham Palace and you might be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a Royal!

Edinburgh

Edinburgh is certainly a place that appeals to those who aren’t fussed about the weather. Scotland tends to get the worst of the miserable weather that is the UK, but it also has some incredibly stunning locations. Catch the Edinburgh Fringe Festival over the summer for a feast of entertainment that celebrates the arts who have come from all over the world to show their talents. See some of the history of the city from St Giles Cathedral to Edinburgh Castle. Arthur’s Seat is a popular spot for hiking but to also get some stunning panoramic views of the city below. For anyone with a keen eye for photography, will enjoy a visit to this location.

Devon 

Located in the South West of England, Devon is known for it sandy beaches and picturesque villages. This is a great spot for families because it tends to get some good spots of weather throughout the summer and there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Those who’ve been there before will know that the harbour towns of Torquay and Brixham are great locations to spend a day at. Remember to take advantage of all the individual shops there as well as the traditional savoury and sweet food that’s on offer. Just be careful of seagulls that might eye it up!

Liverpool

And finally Liverpool, the birthplace of The Beatles and a historic town that became prominent as a place for transatlantic trade, the first record dating the arrival of American cargo in 1648. There’s a reason to mention this because if you’ve ever been to New York, you’ll find Liverpool to be somewhat similar in terms of its extremely tall buildings, with some rivalling those in the bigger cities across the UK, including London. It’s a city that’s very much rich in culture and history as well as having a great nightlife too. The accent is one that’s most recognisable (and one that’s probably imitated the most) and is an experience to hear first hand.

Wherever you go, there will be plenty of opportunities to explore somewhere that you may have not been before. It can be a great alternative if you’re not able to afford such an extravagant holiday this year or if you just want a cheaper staycation option. Some other notable mentions for places to visit are Leeds, Bath, Norwich and Plymouth. Living in the UK, you are pretty spoilt for choice in the variety of places that exist and how diverse they are.
