Four Tips For Planning The Perfect Staycation

This year, it’s looking as though international travel may either be completely off limits or logistically extremely hard thanks to the global pandemic, but as lockdown restrictions in the country begin to ease up, we might all be rediscovering the staycation. Staycations are a great break from the daily grind, and require less time and money for you and your family or friends to have fun. There’s something nice about planning a UK break and seeing your home country in a different light, whether you stay local or venture a little further away. So how do you plan the ideal trip?

Set Out Your Plan

Having a travel itinerary mapped out gives your trip a structure and helps you to make the most of it. The key is working out in advance what everyone going would like to do – whether it’s rock climbing, following a mountain bike trail, exploring some local museums or just finding time to chill out in a spa. You can then select your location based on an area that offers everything you want to do.

Agree A Budget

Staycations may be less expensive than venturing abroad, but they still cost money – so it’s a good idea to set a holiday budget before you head off, just like you would for an overseas trip. Where you have saved on air fares, you may be able to afford a slightly nicer hotel for instance, or if you’re planning on camping then perhaps you can splash out on a restaurant you’ve always wanted to try. Remember to also account for petrol costs if you’re driving.

Pack Everything You Need

The great thing about staying in-country for a holiday, especially if you’re driving, is that there are less restrictions on what you can pack – this is especially useful if you have small children, with all paraphernalia they need. Make a staycation packing list so that you don’t forget any essentials. Items such as refillable metal water bottles, inflatable neck pillow or a tablet with lots of downloaded films for the car journey can be saviours. Make sure you shop around to find the best items, such as camping equipment if you need it or travel rugs at Glencroft Countrywear that can keep you cosy or double up as a picnic blanket.

Become A Tourist

How often do we act like tourists in our home country? Even if you aren’t travelling anywhere, you can still plan some fun by checking out all the local tourist attractions in your area. Lots of cities are covered with free walking guide audio tours that can help you uncover the history of streets you walk through every day, and it’s always fun to explore the back streets you normally hurry past to find independent shops and the best rated local restaurants. Change the way you see the city around you and you might be surprised what you can discover.

With a little forward planning, your staycation could well prove to be the highlight of your year – a great way to bond with those you love after a difficult time.
