Holiday Dreaming? Inspiration For Your Next Trip

Just a few months ago, many of us were counting down the days until we hopped on a plane and jetted off to foreign climes. Fast forward, and all plans have been put on hold. We might not be able to travel anywhere at the moment, but the days of checking in, taking off and chilling out will return. If the lockdown has got you daydreaming about holidays, why not take a look at these destinations and get some inspiration for your next trip?

Lisbon, Portugal

If you’re considering a city break, Lisbon offers the perfect blend of sightseeing, sunshine and lazy days at the beach. Nestled on the coast, this beautiful, bustling city is just a stone’s throw from golden beaches, making it an idyllic spot to enjoy culture and relaxation. In the city, there’s plenty on offer to keep visitors of all ages entertained, and the narrow streets lined with brightly coloured tiled houses are a sight to behold. Located in a hilly area, walking around Lisbon burns serious calories, as well as treating tourists to incredible views. Highlights for those keen to explore include Belem Tower, Jeronimos Monastery and Castelo de San Jorge. It’s also well worth taking an afternoon to meander through the winding, labyrinth-like streets of historic Alfama. If you’re staying for a few days, hop on a train to soak up the rays at the nearby beaches and take a trip to stunning Sintra. Here, you’ll find the magical, unique Pena Palace.

Nepal

For those keen to enjoy new experiences and combine sightseeing with adventure, a Nepal tour is ideal. Nepal is best known for attracting intrepid explorers keen to scale the summit of mighty Mount Everest, but it has a lot to offer to those who don’t harbour such ambitions too. Boasting dramatic natural scenery, a rich, vibrant culture and a dazzling array of temples and palaces, a trip to Nepal guarantees a memorable holiday. Kathmandu, the capital, is packed with busy squares and lively restaurants and it is characterised by medieval architecture, which makes you feel as though you’re stepping back in time. Travellers who enjoy the thrills and spills of active pursuits will be spoiled for choice away from the hustle and bustle of the city, with river rafting, hiking and mountain biking popular pursuits.

Iceland

Many of us will be looking forward to hitting the beach and recharging our batteries post-lockdown, but if you fancy a change of scenery and you’re up for something a little different, have you thought about visiting Iceland? The land of fire and ice offers an incredible selection of activities and it’s adorned with some of the spectacular scenery you’ll ever see. A trip to the South Shore from the hip capital of Reykjavik treats visitors to views of volcanoes, lakes, glaciers, snow-capped mountains and rumbling rivers. Here, you can snorkel, swim, climb, hike and cycle, or you can embrace the high life and jump on a snowmobile to discover glaciers and ice caves in style. Reykjavik is famed for its trendy independent shops and quirky galleries, and the harbour affords beautiful views of the white wonderland that lies beyond the city boundaries. For many, the opportunity to bask in the thermal waters of natural spas is a major draw, and the famous Blue Lagoon attracts visitors from all corners of the globe.

If lockdown has got you thinking about your next holiday, why not add these destinations to your short-list?
