Treat Yourself to a Classical Roman Holiday

There is no other art form that both moves you and stirs up such a maelstrom of emotions as music does. Classical music in particular is a genre that possesses dozens of tunes which are instantly recognisable, even by those who claim not to be fans. Whether your personal choice is Mozart, Rimsky-Korsakoff, Paganini, Schubert or Wagner, when you sit back and let the music take over you are transported to a magical land you find yourself returning to time after time.

If you are a lover of both classical music and culture is there anywhere more magical to take in your favourite music than the Eternal City? Those who regularly make the pilgrimage to absorb the magic resonating from the stage will agree but there is more than enough in Rome to satisfy the hunger of even the most discerning culture vulture. When you pop online to order your tickets you will soon see just how many concerts in Rome are taking place on a daily basis.

Ballet, recitals and rock concerts are also readily available for those who like to mix up their cultural entertainment, and those with an eclectic taste in music can absorb the magic of Beethoven’s 5th one night and be rocking away with Enrique Iglesias the next! This will surprise those who consider Rome to be a somewhat old fashioned city, no doubt rising from the sheer volume of ancient relics and monuments it boasts. The only thing old about Rome are these fabulous tourist attractions. It is very much a bustling, modern, cosmopolitan city that appeals to all ages and caters for all cultural leanings.

In between taking in the Colosseum, Sistine Chapel, Trevi Fountain et al you have the choice of such fabulous venues as Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, St Paul’s Within the Walls, Auditorium Parco della Musica and Palazzo Dello Sport, to name but a few. There is a full summer programme of outdoor classical concerts in Rome to enjoy as well, and it doesn’t get much better relaxing with a glass of vino ensconced in the balmy summer evening air that carries the enchanting music across the city…

With airlines and travel companies fighting to become more competitive with one another, there’s always a great deal to be had somewhere so do spend some time looking around online for bargains on your travel and accommodation – that way, you can save some pennies for an extra glass or two of bubbly at the Opera!

In short, you will be pushed to find a city with a more diverse selection of concerts than Rome, and as far as classical concerts are concerned there’s no competition. The city has very much moved with the times and prides itself on filling even the largest of venues by giving the people what they want. The vast majority of classical music is timeless and we have been listening to it for hundreds of years and, as long as we have cities like Rome, future generations will also be lucky enough to experience the magic.
