Warming Winter Comfort Foods with Holland’s Pies

When it starts to get cold, dark and rainy I tend to start cooking comforting meals like stew and dumplings, mac’n’cheese and pies. Something that is warming, comforting and really filling. Pies are my go to as they are always a quick, easy and delicious option for dinner.

I recently created a comfort food dinner using one of Holland’s Pies newest pies. Holland’s Pies have just released a brand new range of vegetarian pies, Wyke Farms mature cheddar cheese and onion pie, cheese & veg pies and a vegetarian mince & gravy pie.

“Holland’s started life as a baker’s shop in Lancashire in 1851. For over 168 years, its proper tasty range has been baked to a secret traditional recipe, passed down from generation to generation using only the finest of ingredients ever since.”

Hollands Cheddar cheese & onion pie

I got to try out the mature cheddar cheese and onion pie.

I served this pie with creamy mash and some mixed vegetables. Some other serving suggestions would be:

  • Grilled tomato and peas
  • Chips and mushy peas
  • Baked beans and chips
  • Sautéed vegetables

There’s nothing better than sitting down on the sofa with a cosy blanket, putting on your favourite tv show and eating a warming and delicious meal.

The pie was delicious, the pastry is thin and crisp and the filling is rich and flavourful. One thing that can let pies down is the pastry not being cooked enough in the middle or the pastry being too thick, but I didn’t have this issue with this pie. Sometimes pies can be a bit soggy but this one kept it’s form perfectly.

The pies went down well with my parents and Sam, we all eat meat but found it was a nice to have a pie without meat for a change. If you are a meat lover they have plenty of pies to choose from such as mince beef and onion, creamy chicken and mushroom and steak and kidney pies.
