What To Do With That Awkward Time Between Check Out and Flying Home

Whether you’re going on an extended trip or just away for the weekend, there’s usually always an awkward time between checking out of your hotel and flying home. You may be able to time it just fine, but it’s usually the case that you have to check out early and then have a good few hours to kill before you finally get to fly home. Here are some ideas that can help you to make the most of that time.

Find Somewhere To Store Your Luggage

Start by finding somewhere to store your luggage. The last thing you want to do is drag it around with you if you’ve got a long time to wait before your flight. It shouldn’t be too hard to find luggage storage nearby. You can also see if you can leave it in a storage room at your hotel if it isn’t too far out of the way, or perhaps you can check your bags in to the flight early. Whatever you do, make sure you don’t have to worry about your bag again until it’s time to fly.

Go For A Meal

Make the most of this time by enjoying a nice meal and some drinks. Food on a plane is fine if you’re desperate, but it’s often super expensive and won’t fill you up like a proper meal. See if there’s somewhere you can drop in for sustenance before flying.

Hire a Bed

Who hasn’t been tired from a trip at the airport and longed to go to sleep, but had nowhere suitable to do it? You could sleep on the plane, but that will no doubt be seriously uncomfortable, too. More airports are introducing sleeping zones and pods that you can hire for a fee. If you plan on doing this, though, it’s even more important to keep your bag safe.

Grab Some Souvenirs For Loved Ones

Looking for souvenirs can be time consuming and tiring, but when you’ve got lots of free time before you fly it’s the perfect way to kill time. Leaving it until the end of the trip means you can fully enjoy the rest of your stay without having to worry about buying gifts for others. You could also get some photos from your trip printed, so you can look back on the amazing memories.

Download A Film or Series

If you can’t be bothered to do anything, there’s always Netflix or Prime. You can download films and series before you travel so you don’t even need an internet connection, just your device and some headphones.

If you have a lot of time leftover, you may even be able to fit in another activity, such as visiting a museum or going to a gallery. If not, try to use this time to relax. You could read a book, do a puzzle, or watch something while you wait. If you can’t afford a nap pod or sleeping zone pass, then consider investing in a comfortable pillow instead. You can catch some Z’s and arrive home feeling rejuvenated! Leave any of your own ideas below and thanks for reading.
